Roger Federer has had a rough season so far. Injury has plagued his season with knee and back injuries keeping him off the court for much of this year. It’s great to see Federer back and on his true home and best surface the grass.
In Stuttgart last week, Federer got some wins and some much-needed confidence. It was a shame that he lost a close semi-final to new up and coming Dominic Thiem. Federer had match points and couldn’t convert. I’m sure he will be disappointed with that result because had Federer won he would have faced Kohlschreiber in the final that he has never lost too. But Roger can take the positives out of the week coming back and nearly getting to final is a good result considering how little tennis he has played.
Now to Halle, Federer has won 8 titles in Halle and is going for his 9th title there this week. Federer again needs some wins and in my view really needs to win the title there to get some much-needed confidence heading into Wimbledon.
I have always believed that Roger will win at least one more Grand Slam title. Realistically it is Wimbledon or the US Open where his best chances lie. Wimbledon being the best one as the faster surface quicker and shorter points help Federer against Djokovic and Murray. Federer has come up against a simply amazing Novak Djokovic in the last two years at the Wimbledon Final. I think if Federer is going to win an 8th Wimbledon title he will probably have to avoid facing Novak. I would say this Djokovic may suffer an upset somewhere in Wimbledon, I believe if that happens then Federer the King of Grass is in and there is simply no else other than Novak who can beat him at Wimbledon.
